Tagging For Traffic

Are you familiar with the latest craze sweeping the web? More and more savvy web users are turning to a new way of searching to find quality information that does not rely on traditional search engine algorithm. Fed up with sifting through pages and pages of irrelevant search engine results to find what they want, web users have switched to tagging as a viable, time-saving alternative to researching for distinct information. This new tagging trend is luring legions of Internet surfers.

What is Tagging?

Tagging is basically assigning keywords or tags to web content such as photos, web pages or blog posts. When a web user talks about tagging, he is simply referring to how he summarizes what his web page, picture or blog is all about.

With tagging, a user determines what the content is about and tag or labels it. This tag, maybe one or more words, provides a short description of the content or the category it conforms to. It is somewhat similar to bookmarking a web page on a user's own computer sans the systematic categorizing methods like folders. Also, instead of the entry being saved on his personal computer, it is saved on publicly available sites or social bookmarking sites that anyone can use to tag web content. Web surfers tag the content they find significant and these appear on the bookmarking sites. Other Internet users interested in the same subjects can then find real content or resources other users found useful.

Why Tag?

Tagging helps web page owners to know what users are searching for. They then create web content that is relevant and easy to find. In the process, these contents will gain in popularity as well.

If a web page operator made a web page for an in-demand tag that everybody is searching for, he will definitely get highly targetted traffic. Other users who found the content of the web page of good quality will bookmark the page making it rise in popularity. As it becomes more popular, more and more users will bookmark it paving the way for more traffic. By tagging content, it gets to be evaluated by users who decide if the content is useful. If it is useful, free traffic will follow. Another thing with tagging is that a web owner can select several tags for each page in his site. This means a chance to rank high for many tags in the highly-trafficked bookmarking sites that use tags to organize information.

In a nutshell, tagging gives a web owner another avenue for getting his site noticed by buyers without having to resort to advertising. It can also lead to other possibilities. More traffic can stimulate increase in sales, produce adsense income, and earn affiliate commissions. Other users can also subscribe to the web owner's list. Web users know for a fact that in the web, it is all about traffic. Tagging can help generate a steady flow of traffic which ultimately leads to a solid business.

So, are you tagged?

Redirecting web traffic to a new location

If you have to move a website from one domain to another, it will mean that all the links pointing to your old site would now be lost and would generate the dreaded 404 error when visitors came in via old search engine listing or links.

The best way to preserve your links, and have visitors end up on their required page is to setup a redirect from the old domain to the new one.

In this example, we are going to assume that we use to have a domain called OLDSITE.COM and for some reason we have to move everything across to NEWSITE.COM

The first up, don't kill the hosting for the old site but leave it operating for some time. This will then allow us to redirect visitors from the old site to the new site.

A 301 redirect simply tells search engines that visit your site that the old URL has now permanently changed to another URL. Once the search engines find the 301 redirect they will start to convert all the old links in their index across to the new location.
This will take some time and on site sites, this may take months to have the search engines convert all the old links across to the new locations.

An .htaccess file is nothing more than a simple text file that contains instructions for the web server that run on that hosting account.

On your PC, start a copy of NOTEPAD (This can be achieved by going Start->Accessories->Notepad) and edit your existing .htaccess file or to create a new one. DON'T use Word or any other word processing software to open the file, because these packages have the horrible habit of inserting "funny" characters in file that will cause the .htaccess file to not function properly.

If your new site's structure is exactly the same as the old site, then simply place the following line in your .htaccess file

Redirect 301 http://www.NEWSITE.COM

Now save the file, and FTP this file up into your websites main account. On most Linux based systems, this is the /public_html/ directory

Now, whenever a visitor (be it a human or a search engine bot) comes to your old domain, they will be redirect to your new site. So if they came looking for a file called stuff.html (old URL would be www.oldsite.com/stuff.html) they would get automatically redirected to www.newsite.com/stuff.htm

This is the easiest way to move an entire site from one domain to another…

If the structure of the new site is different from the old one, then we will need to "map" each old URL to its corresponding new location. This also applies if you decide to change the structure of your site, and you want to preserve the links from your old structure and 'map" them to their new location.

If you have a URL that was www.oldsite.com/dogtraining/ and you wanted to redirect visitors to www.newsite.com/info/dog-training.html you would place the following in your .htaccess file.

Redirect 301 /dogtraining/ http://www.newsite.com/info/dog-training.html

The format is:
Redirect 301 old-location new-location

The "old-location" is the path to the old destination (minus the domain name)
The "new-location" is the full path to final destination (it must include the fully qualified domain name as well).

This means that when every a visitor comes in on the old URL (www.oldsite.com/dogtraining/) the web server will redirect them to the new URL of (www.newsite.com/info/dog-training.html)

If you have multiple locations that you want to redirect, then you have to have multiple redirects set up. With one redirect per line. An example might look like this:

Redirect 301 /make dollar/ http://absen06.blogspot.com/2011/08/start-to-make-dollar.html
Redirect 301 /traffic exchange/ http://absen06.blogspot.com/2011/08/traffic-exchanges.html
Redirect 301 /graphic/ http://absen06.blogspot.com/2011/08/graphic-designing-by-everyone.html

It is time consuming setting up 301 redirect, but if your site had valuable incoming links, then its worth spending the time to preserve those links and keep your website ranking as well as it used to and to keep your site profitable.

Traffic Exchanges

There are many very effective ways to advertise your business online and equally, there are some highly dubious methods too!

While I usually prefer to focus on positive subjects for my articles, the merry-go-round of the traffic exchange "industry" is something I feel I have a duty to warn you of. If you're new to marketing your business online then you've been doing some searches here and there, trying to find ways of "getting out there".

You've discovered that there's a million and one different websites making fantastic claims and promising the earth! Whilst most traffic exchanges don't claim to be able to make you a millionaire, they do claim to be able to send you untold numbers of "hot prospects". This is what I have a problem with - the quality of the traffic is almost always very poor.

No doubt you've discovered a few of these traffic exchanges yourself. Why don't they work?

The giveaway is in the name but first a little history will help you understand the context in which traffic exchanges have come to exist. Back in the primordial days of the internet, at least as long ago as 2001, the first traffic exchange was born. It was a beautiful concept and it worked very well. Users signed up and agreed to view or "surf" other members' pages. As the user surfed, so credits built up which were used to display the users site across the network.

Because this concept was new, it worked fantastically well. It was a great way to get traffic to your new site. Then, inevitably, the business model was copied. The traffic exchange "industry" was now upon us. There seemed to be a new exchange being released every week. Different exchanges had different surf/display ratios. All the same people joined all the same exchanges.

Let's jump right back into the present. With a little research, it won't take you long to find out that these days it's the search engines driving more than 80% of the traffic on the internet. The only people using traffic exchanges are new webmasters and people trying to find a free way of promoting their website.

Look at this user base for a minute.

No-one is interested in what you have to sell. All they care about (just like you) is getting traffic to their own website. People who still insist on using the exchanges have devised ways of surfing more than 15 exchanges simultaneously, never spending more than a second or two on one site. This all adds up to nobody really seeing your page and equates to a very poor return on your investment - that investment being time, your most precious commodity.

Traffic exchanges began when SEO was a term that had not even been coined. With the rise and rise of Google, the other engines playing catch-up and many smaller niche directories now appearing on the scene, the overriding focus in this day and age is search engine optimisation or SEO. When you see the awesome power of a top listing in Google, the traffic exchange "industry" becomes a complete farce.

Then the final nail in the coffin. The robots!

Since a traffic exchange relies on a piece of software to distribute the traffic around the network, there is always going to be the potential to design a piece of software that can cheat the system. These "bots" are available to buy if you look around.

Enough robots can effectively make a traffic exchange completely useless and they regularly do. No matter how much "cheat protection" the exchange owner implements, some savvy coder will always find a way around it. It's quite probable that the only winners in the traffic exchange game are the people running the robots - they get tons of free traffic! A clever exchange owner can also carve a living out it, if they try really hard.

So I have some very good reasons to warn you against using the traffic exchange and first hand experience of this industry too (I experimented with the exchanges for way too long). If you're new to this internet marketing thing then please take my advice - don't waste your time.

Concentrate on search engine optimisation. Concentrate on giving something of value away for nothing if you can. This has the effect of getting other people to link to your site since you are providing a resource. Links into your site raise your popularity. In my book I show you some great software programs available which will help you build a web property that is really worth something. That's where the fun begins.

In my opinion you must forget about traffic exchanges. Stop click - click - clicking and start - link - link - linking.

To your success!

Graphic Designing By Everyone

It seems to be the norm these days that just about anyone can be considered a graphic designer to some degree or another. With so many programs being built right into digital camera software, greeting card programs and the standards that come with computer packages these days, it makes it really easy for people to get creative and experiment with their design skills. Many are at home designing and saving money by creating their own wedding invitations, holiday newsletters, calendars, advertisements and much more with borders, clip art, funky fonts and all kinds of themes and color schemes that can be achieved with just a click or two of the mouse.

Pictures can also be easily incorporated into designs of any media type, print or web, with one of the many software programs on the market today. But when it comes to pictures and images, a favorite amongst most graphic designers is definitely Photoshop. This program is manufactured by Adobe and has tons of amazing features and tools that can make any picture into a work of art with very little effort. It also enables you to touch up photos that might have been damaged or become worn over time, in addition to having the capability to add text and all kinds of cool effects to artistic projects. Adobe Photoshop does tend to be on the more expensive side, but if purchased in a bundled package, you'll not only save money, but you'll also get a few other really great design programs that Adobe also develops and sells right along with it – then you can really get crazy going to town with your artistic abilities!

Results will vary of course, depending on an individual's degree of experience, education in design and length of time working in this area, but even just a basic knowledge of a graphic design program can lead to some very imaginative results either on a personal or professional level.

How To Create A Link Bait Program

As you go about developing a comprehensive program to increase traffic to your Internet business website, you likely are looking for those tools that can be most useful to you. To this end, you may wondering how to create a link bait. Indeed, a link bait can be very helpful to you in beefing up the volume of traffic to your Internet business website. Through this article, you are provided with an overview of how to create a link bait.

In simple terms, link bait is any content or feature that is included on a website that "baits" or attracts and draws people to place links to the particular website that is featuring this attractive content or feature. Using link bait oftentimes is a part of an overall search engine optimization program and plan. In very simple terms, link bait is anything that ends up being interesting enough to catch attention from other people.

Examples of link bait include placing links to a website within copy that is included within or placed on bulletin boards, social networking website venues and newsgroup websites. Many people have found this type of Internet marketing as part of a link building program to be very powerful and ultimately successful in increasing traffic to a particular website.

Some of the more common link baits include:

Informational Hooks: These types of link baits provide a reader with useful information which causes them to click on a link.

News Hooks: These types of link baits provide tidbits of news that motivate a person to click on a link.

Humor Hooks: By entertaining a reader, a reader many times will take the step of clicking on a link to see "if the story continues" at the referenced website.

Evil Hooks: The making of strong, negative or even harsh statements oftentimes can motivate a person to click on a link.

Tool Hooks: By providing access to some sort of tool that might be useful to a person, you oftentimes can motivate a person to click on a link.

By using these proven link baits, you likely will be able to develop a successful inbound link program that will increase the traffic to your website. Increased traffic will result in an increase in revenues and profits as well -- which is, of course, your ultimate goal when it comes to a Net based business enterprise.

Online Selling Using Cause & Effect To Gain Success

There is nothing more than I enjoy than marketing products on the net. Products which have been thoroughly researched and 99.9% of times are exactly the one that I myself use. I use the net each and every day and update myself with exactly what is happening online. All of those little changes, which most times result in big changes. And I meet these by adjusting my campaigns and ideas accordingly. I also love receiving those constant spam messages into my email inbox what a great way to monitor exactly what others are doing. Overall in the research I have done over the past few months here are a few points I would like to address, that will have a direct cause and effect impact on your own online business promotions.

It stuns my senses just how many scams and dodgy products are currently doing the rounds. It is a disgrace and all that it achieves is to directly wipe consumer confidence away from products which actually have a genuine worth and value. There is absolutely no benefit in promoting a product or service which does not have real value or effect. The internet has gained over time this reputation for making a simple quick buck. This is very far from the truth, but there are quite a few people out there who believe this point, and are doing there best to really make those quick bucks at any price. But these type of actions do have consequences and most of these fall back right into the lap of genuine sellers.

If you sell online in any form you really need to ask yourself one question How Long Do You Plan To Operate In Business Online. If your answer is, Forever! Then you have a future. If the answer is, Not Long At All. Then go ahead and just give up right now. I will let you in on a simple truth and it costs nothing! There is absolutely no way to make an easy dollar online, not one way at all. I have seen every scheme and idea in the book and this idea of 'An Easy Buck' an idea promoted fairly widely in most dodgy sales pitch's, is simply not possible. Nor is it possible I might add in offline world business practice.

It is good advice that a degree of knowledge is really a must needed commodity for potential buyers, before they purchase. This action needs to be provided by sellers, in the form of direct product information. A fancy sales pitch without real product information just doesn't work online. Customers are cautious before spending online already, firstly because of internet security risks and secondly because of the fact they have seen all the gimmicks before. Truth in advertising works online and this is something sellers need to be totally aware of, when marketing there own products. Truth is an absolute online asset, ask yourself the question, would I purchase the product I am selling. And as important are the 2 words, Online Trust.

Customers should be advised to always check their rights and/or the sellers background before purchasing online from any seller, check a sellers online sales policy, about us or contact us page. And if you buy a product you should always have the ability to ask for a refund, within due reason. Consumer confidence is an essential ingredient for good online buying experience. I myself have purchased products with which I have been far from happy. I contacted sellers and have received no response back, so I have had to contact the credit company I purchased the items though re: pay pal etc. And then a sellers response becomes automatic, because there is a negative action in result for the seller.

This type of action is called leverage. If you are unhappy use leverage, but buyers really should not need to resort to this type of action. This is exactly what separates the good sellers from just the plain bad, and exactly one point which ruins consumer confidence which directly effects everyone who operates in real online business. My advice, always follow your sales up with a question, asking for any feedback from your sales. Make sure the customer is pleased with the level of service and product you supply. The customer is number one and always should be treated with this exact respect. If you are serious about long term online success then this type of action is more than necessary. And always remember if you get any negative feedback, fix or negotiate the problem immediately and effectively.

The sharks and internet get rich quick artists have a short life span online, but as soon as one disappears another replaces them. Their actions do put the spotlight onto genuine sellers and we need to be wary of this and act accordingly. Being aware of potential changes and actions of others that may have a direct negative effect on our business provides us with a real option to make our online opportunities more successful. Turn a simple negative into a positive and this is an approach that we can always use no matter where in life, to make things simply better. The only substance that will make you a success in any form is plain hard work. There is no substitute for hard work, and if you already understand this exact fact you are on your first steps to reaching success already.

An Introduction To The EVE Online Game - What Are The Essentials

Even If you have just gotten started playing EVE Online, you are already probably aware of the existence of EVE Online ore. Mining for ore is one of the best ways to get ahead in this complicated, versatile game, and you'll find that with just a little bit of work and some basic information under your belt that you'll be in good shape to understand ore, it's place in EVE Online, and how you can make the ore you mine work the best for you!

As several awards and more than 220,000 active accounts, it is easily seen that the EVE Online game is one massive multiuser online role playing game that you want to get into! This game, created by the Icelandic company CCP, has been active and popular for the past five years, and continues to grow at an impressive rate. You'll find that with a little bit of knowledge about this game and brief idea of the game play, you'll be ready to get started and see what this fascinating game world has to offer.

The general premise of the EVE Online game is one where the Earth as we know it has been depleted of usable resources, and due to this, people were leaving the planet to colonize space. In the EVE Online game, people spread throughout the Milky Way and through out the galaxy, until resources were once again contested and wars broke out. The solution to this problem was a natural wormhole, through which another galaxy could be found. The EVE Gate, an artificial wormhole was constructed to link the galaxies when it was discovered that the natural wormhole was unstable.

The first thing to be aware of is that ore is a basic material that can be found in the asteroid fields that you will encounter in EVE. There are various types of ores, but they are unusable until they have been refined into the minerals that compose them, much like mining in real life. The minerals that result can be very valuable when it comes to things like the manufacture of ships and weapons, and this is how you can get a lot of money through this endeavor.

When you go looking for ore, remember that you want to start off in an area that has fewer than 60 pilots using it. You'll find that competition can be fierce, and when you are starting out, you might need to in a quieter area to make the most of your opportunity. Try to make sure that you are mining in an area that has a refinery nearby; as soon as your hold is full, make sure that you get the ore refined and taken in for ISK, the game's currency, as soon as possible!

When you are looking at ore, the best rule to keep in mind regarding whether the ore you've found is valuable is that the closer it is to A in the alphabet, the more valuable it will be. There are exceptions to this rule, but you'll find that it generally holds true. Also remember that the more valuable the ore, the less you will need of it to refine an amount of mineral that will net you a good profit. It is also fair to say the the more exotic and valuable ore will require some traveling to get to.

The first and most advanced race that can be played are the Amarr, who were the first of the colonies to rediscover space travel. They were on a crusade to spread their thoughts and ideals to the rest of the galaxy and in this, they were aided by the Minmatar, who were more primitive and not so advanced when it came to interstellar travel. After a confrontation with the Gallente and the Jove (the later being the non-playable race), the entire Imperial Navy of Amarr was destroyed. The Gallante were at war for almost a century with the Caldari empire, and tensions between them continue to this day.

This is the general layout for the world of the EVE Online game and into this world, you create a character who can become a miner, a trader, a messenger or even a pirate. These are only some of the options, and you'll find that there are many different things that you can do to make your gameplay enjoyable. There are many different worlds to explore, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

How To Write Keyword Articles

A great way to draw search engine traffic to your site is to write and add keyword articles. Keyword articles are articles that you write on a particular topic and then optimize for a word or phrase that visitors frequently search for.

For example, if you have a site that sells baby gifts, you may want to write an article about choosing the perfect baby shower gift. You may optimize that article for the keyword "baby shower gift". Here is an overview on how you can write keyword articles.

Pick a Specific Keyword Phrase

Do some research on what keywords visitors are typing into search engines to find information on what you have to offer. Use tools like WordTracker or the Overture Keyword Selector Tool. Don't go for the highly competitive keywords and phrases, instead pick a phrase that is searched for less often but that may be of particular interest to your customers. The more targeted your phrase the better luck you will have attracting people who are very interested in what you're talking about.

Use Your Keyword in the Title of Your Article

Once you have decided on a keyword, use it in your title. Make sure your title is interesting and makes sense. Don't try to work your keyword in multiple times. Your title will sound odd. An example of a bad title would be "New Baby Gifts and Affordable Baby Gifts for a Baby Shower".

Don't Overstuff Your Article with Keywords

Obviously you are going to use your keyword a few times in your article. Just don't force them in. This is also referred to as overstuffing with keywords. Your main focus should be on writing an article that flows well and provides useful information to your reader. After all it won't do you any good to get visitors to the page with the article, if you can't get them to read it.

Don't Submit Your Keyword Optimized Article to the Article Directories

Submitting articles to the article directories is a great way to gain more traffic and incoming links. You want to avoid creating extra competition for the keyword phrase you picked for your article, so before you submit it, take some time to come up with a different title that doesn't include your keyword, and maybe even rewrite some sentences within your article to do the same.

Start writing a few articles for different keywords and add them to your site. Within a few weeks you will notice free traffic from the search engine coming in. Make it a habit to come up with a few of these articles each month to continually drive more visitors and potential customers to your site.

How to Make Money from Google AdSense

What is Google AdSense?

"Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads on their website's content pages and earn money."
- Google, July 2006

Through some clever java script and coding, Google matches content on sites to related ads. AdSense is a great program that allows webmasters to earn income through ad revenue by doing absolutely nothing but post content. AdSense is actually a really great program for those who maintain blogs, as blogs get updated all the time and the AdSense possibilities are almost limitless.

How to Use Google AdSense

Cisco CCNA - CCNP Certification Exam Tutorial: Dialer Watch

Dialer Watch is a vital part of your CCNA and CCNP studies, particularly for the BCRAN exam, but it's one of the most misunderstood technologies as well. To help you pass the CCNA and CCNP certification exams, here's a detailed look at Dialer Watch.

Dialer Watch allows you to configure a route or routes as "watched" when the watched route leaves the routing table and there is no other valid route to that specific destination, the ISDN link will come up. In the following example, R1 and R2 are connected by both a Frame Relay cloud over the 172.12.123.0 /24 network and an ISDN cloud using the 172.12.12.0 /24 network. The routers are running OSPF over the Frame cloud, and R1 is advertising its loopback of 1.1.1.1/32 as well as an Ethernet segment, 10.1.1.0/24, via OSPF. R2 has both of these routes in its OSPF table, as shown below.

R2#show ip route ospf

1.0.0.0/32 is subnetted, 1 subnets

O 1.1.1.1 [110/65] via 172.12.123.1, 00:00:07, Serial0

10.0.0.0/24 is subnetted, 1 subnets

O 10.1.1.0 [110/128] via 172.12.123.1, 00:00:08, Serial0

We want R2 to place a call to R1 if either the loopback or Ethernet networks leave R2's routing table, but we don't want to have to depend on interesting traffic. That dictates the use of Dialer Watch.

First, configure the list of watched routes with dialer watch-list. Only one of the watched routes needs to leave the routing table for the ISDN link to come up. In this example, R2 will watch both routes from its OSPF routing table.

Be careful with this command. The entries here need to match exactly the routes and masks being watched. Dialer watch-lists use subnet masks, not wildcard masks.

R2(config)#dialer watch-list 5 ip 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0

R2(config)#dialer watch-list 5 ip 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.255

Configure the dialer watch-group command on the BRI interface, AND frame map statements for the watched routes. As with dialer-list and dialer-group, the group number referenced in the dialer watch-group command must match the number assigned to the dialer watch-list.

The Dialer Watch configuration will not work without frame map statements for each watched route. I repeat this because this is the step a lot of people leave out.

R2(config)#interface bri0

R2(config-if)#dialer watch-group 5

R2(config-if)# dialer map ip 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.255. name R1 5557777 broadcast

R2(config-if)# dialer map ip 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0 name R1 5557777 broadcast

To test Dialer Watch, the Serial0 interface on R2 will be shut down. Since we're running OSPF, the route table will be updated almost immediately and the ISDN link should come up right after that.

R2(config)#int s0

R2(config-if)#shut

01:12:47: %OSPF-5-ADJCHG: Process 1, Nbr 1.1.1.1 on Serial0 from FULL to DOWN, N
eighbor Down: Interface down or detached

01:12:47: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface BRI0:1, changed state to up

01:12:48: %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console by console

01:12:48: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface BRI0:1, changed state
to up

01:12:49: %LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Serial0, changed state to administratively
down

01:12:50: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Serial0, changed state
to down

01:12:53: %ISDN-6-CONNECT: Interface BRI0:1 is now connected to 5557777 R1

Within five seconds, the ISDN link is up. show dialer verifies that Dialer Watch is the reason the line was brought up.

R2#show dialer

BRI0 - dialer type = ISDN

Dial String Successes Failures Last DNIS Last status

5557777 2 0 00:00:11 successful

0 incoming call(s) have been screened.

0 incoming call(s) rejected for callback.

BRI0:1 - dialer type = ISDN

Idle timer (120 secs), Fast idle timer (20 secs)

Wait for carrier (30 secs), Re-enable (15 secs)

Dialer state is data link layer up

Dial reason: Dialing on watched route loss

Time until disconnect 108 secs

Connected to 5557777 (R1)
A final note regarding Dialer Watch ... it will not work with RIP, but will with all our other dynamic IGPs (IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF).

Cheat Engine is an open source tool designed to help you with modifying single player games running under windows so you can make them harder or easier depending on your preference(e.g: Find that 100hp is too easy, try playing a game with a max of 1 HP), but also contains other useful tools to help debugging games and even normal applications.
It comes with a memory scanner to quickly scan for variables used within a game and allow you to change them, but it also comes with a debugger, disassembler, assembler, speedhack, trainer maker, direct 3D manipulation tools, system inspection tools and more.
For new users it is recommended to go through the tutorial(The one that comes with Cheat Engine, you can find it in your programs list after installing) and at least reach step 5 for basic understanding of the usage of Cheat Engine

Contracting out SEO Article Writing

In a recent thread at webmasterworld, when asked if members had 10 people to assist promoting their website, what would they do. This interesting question produced the surprising answer by one member that they would have 9 people writing articles and one person linking.

Articles are a great way to get theme related one-way links, linkable content and can be contracted for around $10 per 400 - 500 word article. Prices vary though, and so does the range of qualifications.

Article writing, like link building, is an excellent candidatate for outsourcing, or perhaps more correctly, Outtasking.

Why Outsource?

Oursourcing is great because you can purchase services you need when you need them. You don't have to worry about meeting payroll, or providing computers, desks or equipment. While a freelancer is researching and writing you can take care of other things.

Often, a freelancer represents a group, allowing you access to the more resources and expertise.

Misconceptions

One of the biggest misconceptions is you can 'just give it to them' and it will all be good. Nothing can be futher from the truth. In fact, the more time and effort you put into it, the better the chances of success.

Example Project of 10 articles.

Before talking to my partners in the Philippines, I research keywords and use the keywords to set up the titles and content of the articles. This usually gives me 6 or 8 of the article titles. Since not all articles get syndicated, I go to several articles syndication sites and research which articles in my area have the most links in YAHOO. This give more data for article topics and titles and general tone. Next, I decide what type of article suits the titles best. Is it to be a "information about this" article or a "how to" article with a bulleted list of actions the reader can take right now?

Once all this has been written out, I send it to my partner and ask to see 4 or 5 articles right away so that I can confirm everything is on track.

Or course, I have specified in advance the articles must be original, and I make periodic checks to make sure. Once you have dealt with a freelancer a few times you can ease up, but it still pays to check all the time.

Don't use software

There are lots of people offering software that scrapes article syndication sites and/or the web for content, re-arranges it, and spits out hundreds of articles. My experience is it would have been easier and certainly faster to write the articles myself, or hire someone to do it.

Automated re-writes of scraped content seems to work on the Search Engines for now, but how long it is going to last is anyone's guess. The achilles heel of automation is that it has to use templates and will always leave a footprint that other automated systems (ie bots & crawlers) can easily detect.

Price vs. Turnaournd time

Most freelance writers take on more contracts than they can handle and juggle turn-around times to maximise immediate cash flow. At any moment they only have a few contracts to work on, although they have many outstanding. Sound familiar?

Knowing this, expect to get a low price with a longer turnaround, OR a short turnaround with a higher price.

Low or High?

Don't choose the lowest price and don't choose the highest. Review what they say and examples of their work and make a decision on which one you like first, then look at cost.

A team is also important. Ofter 'a freelancer' represents a small group who work together. With a team of 5 people writing 20 articles, you get different approaches and points of view. I give preference and pay a slightly higher price for a team.

Qualifications

Qualifications are important in relation to what you need. I like newspaper writers because they are in the business of writing snappy headlines and catchy articles, which is what I like for my sites.

Other sites may prefer novelists or technical writers to suit the tone of their sites.

Contracting out or outsourcing is still work -- just a different kind of work. Managing freelancers takes some skill and practice and if done properly, can increase productivity and lower costs substantially.

Guidelines on Fast Downloads

Imagine you are waiting for the page to open but it is taking forever. What do you do? You simply close that window. This is what happens when websites take their own sweet time to download, visitor's often loose interest. If you have a website like this you might end up loosing a potential customer and good business. Hence, it is essential for you to ascertain that
• Your pageloads are quick
• Visitors stay on your site and
• You convert them into buyers.
You can achieve these goals by following these simple rules:

1. Do not dump all the information on your homepage. It will result in slowing down your website. Keep it as brief as possible. Your homepage should provide all the information and yet be clutter free. This can be achieved by having a small attractive introduction. It is not necessary to have all the information on the homepage itself. You can segregate them methodically on other pages and the links for these pages can be displayed on the homepage. This will you will be providing your visitor with all the information they need.

2. Graphics make your page look colorful and attractive. Hence they play an important role in attracting visitors to your website. However the size of the graphics also plays a significant role in downloading of the web page. Manage the size as well as the quality of the images such that your site is downloaded quickly and attractive at the same time.

3. The HTML code should be to the point. Do not add too much of codes. Moreover, when the site is updated and revised the HTML code becomes messy with unnecessary font tags. For example cleanse these empty tags to make your pageloads quicker. However it is strongly advised to have a backup of your original codes before changing them.

4. When a visitor visits your homepage their browser downloads the graphics of that page. As t they keep on browsing through your website many browsers will store (cache) the graphics and use them according when the pages are opened. This prevents time wastage on downloading the same graphics again and again. Caching is more advantageous when you use common graphics on your pages.

Pagers - How Do They Work?

How do those beeping things work that people carry around on their belts? There are several types of pagers but, basically, it's all done by good, old- fashioned radio waves. Someone sends you a text message with a touch-tone phone – or it can also be sent by email – and the message is forwarded to the thing on your belt, which then emits a beep or vibration to tell you you've got a message. This is achieved through a cooperation of communication technologies – basically, messages are broadcast on a certain radio frequency through a group of radio base stations, and the pager receives that message.

The pager has a LCD screen which displays the phone number or text message you are receiving. The simplicity or complexity of the kind of message the pager can receive depends, in part, on whether it is a numeric pager or an alphanumeric pager. If it is numeric, the caller's numeric message is what you receive (usually their phone number for you to call them back). If you have an alphanumeric pager, a text message is transmitted to you by a carrier operator's transcription of a telephonic message. Or text can be sent to you through an alpha entry terminal or a modem. Other options are two-way pagers which function through a PCS band, and interactive pagers which are like tiny computers, allowing telephone-free communications.

You can store a number of messages in your pager – which include the time and date the message was sent – and some have expanded memory to allow you to store even more. This way you can keep phone numbers and information you will need again.

Pagers run a long time on a small battery. One reason is that pagers function through the use of data blocks called codewords. There is a decoder that can determine whether the incoming codewords are for your pager or not and shut off if they are not. Thus, the battery's life is extended.

How far can you travel with your pager? The distance between your pager and the transmitter for which it has been programmed can vary. When you purchase your pager package, you can ask for local, regional or national coverage – at, of course, increasing costs for your paging service and pager. It all depends on what you need – the beauty of it is you can purchase a pager that will exactly fit your personal, professional and geographic requirements.

Barista Competitions

A barista is a person who prepares coffee drinks in a coffee house as his or her profession and especially strives to create theperfect espresso. The barista possesses extensive knowledge on different kinds of beans and roasts and has the technical skills required to master the espresso machine.

Baristas consider the extraction of coffee as art and they actually perform in front of their customers each time they prepare an espresso, a cappuccino, a caffe latte or a caffe mocha. However, if they wish for larger audience and consider themselves as really talented they can consider competing in barista competitions. These events take place every year and they are held at local and national levels. The ultimate title to win is the World Barista Champion.

The World Barista Championship was first held in 2000 in Monte Carlo and it became quickly a public event where the best baristas from different countries battled for espresso making supremacy. The World Barista Championship takes place every year in a different country and the competitors are the winners of the national barista competitions.

In the United States the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) hosts several local barista competitions. There are ten regions, and each state has been assigned to a region. Local competitions are sponsored by businesses, and the winner of each of the local events has the chance to try to impress the jury at the US Barista Championship. There are many barista competitions in Europe and the United Kingdom. Canada, Australia and Central America also have barista competitions at the local, regional and national levels.

In a barista competition the judges have to assess both the contenders and the coffee drinks they make. The criteria based on which they score each barista involve the quality and taste of the beverage, personal presentation, technique and also the presentation of the coffee drink.

The baristas race against the clock as they are only allowed to perform for 15 minutes. They also have 15 minutes before the actual presentation to prepare with every detail for the show - ingredients like syrups, chocolate sprinkles or anything that you can think of except alcohol, cups, trays, blenders, mixers and portable burners. Contenders even roast their own coffee and bring it with them at the competition. After serving their drinks, baristas have 15 minutes to clean their station before they make room for another contestant. The espresso machines used in the competition are key to the taste of the coffee. The machines must be left absolutely clean and free from any impurities.

During the 15 minute performance interval baristas have to prove their skills by preparing 4 espressos, 4 cappuccinos and 4 signature drinks. Four sensory judges that have to decide on the quality of the drinks sample each one of the beverages. While preparing the beverages, the baristas have to present their work, give details about the ingredients they used to the audience and also treat the judges as customers in a coffee shop. One can only imagine the stress.

After the espressos and cappuccinos, which are finished with latte art - complicate designs drawn atop the cup with foamed milk by using the pitcher, the time comes for the signature drink. It is the competitor's original creation and this is where baristas reveal their creativity and skills combining roasts, syrups, steaming and frothing milk and using all sorts of ingredients and flavours that turn their beverages into savory works of art. The baristas can spend even months to invent this perfect drink that can bring them the victory in a competition.

Here are some examples of drinks that barista champions have invented:

  • Troels Poulsen, the 2005 World Barista Championship winner, created a drink called ESB, as in "enhanced sensory balance" by combining melted pepper-gel, espresso and lavender syrup.
  • Phuong Tran, the 2005 USA Barista Champion, was inspired by her childhood in creating the Crimson Sage, a drink made of sugar cane juice, white pepper powder and steamed milk infused with sage leaves. She said that as a child she loved drinking sugar cane juice with ice and she always dreamed of using it in a drink.
  • Sammy Piccolo, the 2004 Canadian Barista Championship winner, created "Insieme" by using raw sugar, egg yolks, curry, bittersweet chocolate and milk.
  • Bronwen Serna, USA Barista Champion of 2004, entitled her signature drink "Sweetness" because the main "secret" ingredient was honey. She also used dark chocolate powder and served it with a dark chocolate square.

Baristas train hard for these competitions, especially if they have the chance to participate in the World Barista Championship. They try to bring to perfection their technique and put together their program as during the competition everything has to work smoothly, no glitches are allowed. They can actually be compared to athletes rehearsing for the Olympic games as some of them even have coaches that sometimes play the role of judges in preparation for the competition.

Barista training

Well, perhaps after reading about the competition requirements it might be wise to brush up a bit on your skills. There are several ways to either get basic skills training as a barista or enhance your existing skills:

  • Books and manuals. There are many books or manuals available that take you step by step through the processes of making an espresso, a cappuccino and other specialty coffee drink. The drawback is that you only have still pictures to look at which may make it difficult for beginners to see the details of the methods.
  • Videos. These provide both visual modeling as well as commentary on how to produce the perfect cup of espresso.
  • Training classes. There are training locations in most areas that offer courses that range from three hours to a full day on learning the secrets of a barista. Many of these programs also deal with how to care for the espresso machine and offer a certificate upon completion.
  • Hands-on. Some experienced barista will offer personal training or mentoring for those interested in becoming a barista or in improving their skills.

Whatever you decide to do, if you have a talent for making a great cup of espresso you should consider entering a barista competition. You will meet other people that share your passion for coffee and will certainly get some new ideas to try in your coffee shop.

Choosing A Domain Name For My Business

The domain name for your business is your online identity. You should be very careful about choosing a domain name that is memorable, scores quite well with search engine listings, has a trust factor attached to it, and commands a brand value. A domain name is quite important for your business correspondences and emails. A long one can cause problems in communication, especially if the domain name seems complex. Here are some tips in choosing a well-meaning domain name that captures the essence of your brand image or business:

1. Keyword oriented or a unique domain name? If your website is going to have a crucial role to play in your business, then it is important to have an adequately researched keyword incorporated within the brand name. Use the most searched-for term in search engine queries, within your domain name. Prior to launching your online business, you should do some research through website tools to find out which keywords register the most number of traffic during a month. For example, if you want to make a website based on advising people, you will find that the keyword help is normally typed in the search engine query window a lot more frequently than the word aid. If your domain name includes targeted keywords, than you will get higher rankings in the search engines like Google and Yahoo. You should bear in mind that, apart from having the targeted keyword in your domain name, you should also have keywords in other parts of your site as well.

2. Use a company name only if you are famous: That is right. If your company name overwhelms the basic product name, then by all means go for the company name as your domain name. For example, people normally use the term Xerox rather than photocopy and if you are Xerox, then you should go for Xerox as a domain name because of the sheer popularity of the brand name. This is usually not the case, so using a keyword-rich domain name is a better move for most people. To be on the right side of balancing your business well, you should buy a set of two domain names, one that represents your business/brand name, and another that represents keywords or key phrases.

3. Keep your domain name short: The shorter your domain name, the more memorable it is. If your domain name has an every-day lingo, the better it is! More often than not, you may find that a simple two-word domain name is already taken. The alternative in this case, is to put a hyphen (-) to your targeted keyword and then add the other word. SEO experts are of the belief that hyphenating two or more words makes a long domain name more search engine friendly. The flip side is that people do not tend to write words with hyphens naturally, and there is a chance that if someone has recommended your site to a friend, the friend may find himself going to a competitor's site. So one has to understand and undergo a lot of study while choosing a domain name. After all, it is one prominent thing that can dictate the flow of your business. Also, you should avoid putting numbers like 4 instead of for in your domain name. It will only lead to confusion.

4. Dot.com only: If you intend to have a website for commercial or business reasons, then by all means go for a website which ends in extension .com. The domain name companies will market other options like .org, .us, .net, etc. However, by all means try stick to .com for better mass appeal.

5. Register similar domain names: If you believe that in the future you are going to have a huge amount of people visiting your website through word-of-mouth advertising, then you should consider registering similar domain names that direct to your main URL (e.g. www.datinginformation.com and www.datinginfo.com). There are cyber-squatters who register domain names in the hope that they will be selling them for a profit to someone who really needs that domain name. Before they do this, you should register the domain names if you think that such a possibility can occur.

6. Be patient: You should not choose a domain name in minutes merely just to get it done and over with. A hasty decision may cost you a lot. It is better to invest time in research and arrive at the right kind of domain name. You should also discuss the comprehensibility and usage of the domain name with friends, neighbors and well wishers to find how simple and commonplace it really is.

Cisco CCNP Certification - BCMSN Exam Tutorial: Uplinkfast

You remember from your CCNA studies that when a port goes through the transition from blocking to forwarding, you're looking at a 50-second delay before that port can actually begin forwarding frames. Configuring a port with PortFast is one way to get around that, but again, you can only use it when a single host device is found off the port. What if the device connected to a port is another switch?

A switch can be connected to two other switches, giving that local switch a redundant path to the root bridge, and that's great - we always want a backup plan! However, STP will only allow one path to be available, but if the available path to the root switch goes down, there will be a 50-second delay due to the STP timers MaxAge and ForwardDelay before the currently blocked path will be available.

The delay is there to prevent switching loops, and we can't use PortFast to shorten the delay since these are switches, not host devices. What we can use is Uplinkfast.

The ports that SW3 could potentially use to reach the root switch are collectively referred to as an uplink group. The uplink group includes the ports in forwarding and blocking mode. If the forwarding port in the uplink group sees that the link has gone down, another port in the uplink group will be transitioned from blocking to forwarding immediately. Uplinkfast is pretty much PortFast for wiring closets. (Cisco recommends that Uplinkfast not be used on switches in the distribution and core layers.)

Some additional details regarding Uplinkfast:

The actual transition from blocking to forwarding mode takes about three seconds.

Uplinkfast cannot be configured on a root switch.

Uplinkfast is configured globally. You can't run Uplinkfast on some ports or on a per-VLAN basis - it's all or nothing.

The original root port will become the root port again when it detects that its link to the root switch has come back up. This does not take place immediately. The switch uses the following formula to determine how long to wait before transitioning back to the forwarding state:

( 2 x FwdDelay) + 5 seconds

Uplinkfast will take immediate action to ensure that the switch upon which it is configured cannot become the root switch. First, the switch priority will be set to 49,152, which means that if all other switches are still at their default priority, they'd all have to go down before this switch can possibly become the root switch. Additionally, the STP Port Cost will be increased by 3000, making it highly unlikely that this switch will be used to reach the root switch by any downstream switches.

And you just know there's got to be at least one option with this command, right? Let's run IOS Help and see.

max-update-rate Rate at which station address updates are sent

When there is a direct link failure, dummy multicast frames are sent to the MAC destination 0100.0ccd.cdcd. The max-update-rate value determines how many of these frames will be sent in a 100-millisecond time period.

Mastering the details of UplinkFast, BackboneFast, BPDU Guard, and Loop Guard are vital to your success on the CCNP exams, and one or more of these features are in use on almost every network in the world. Learn these features for success in both the exam room and the real world!
